AI & Informatics Strategist
Chethan Sarabu, MD, FAAP, FAMIA, is Director of Clinical Innovation for the Health Tech Hub at Cornell Tech, where he focuses on broadly connecting the dots across academic health innovation programs and the broader health innovation industry. In addition, he is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Stanford Medicine, where his work centers around the practical application of open notes in pediatric settings, with a particular emphasis on health equity and patient privacy considerations.
Chethan has been involved in the utilization of Language Models (LLMs) and AI in healthcare, bringing a nuanced perspective to their integration. His early involvement in the open notes initiative at Stanford Children’s Hospital predates the federal requirement set by the 21st Century Cures Act Information Blocking Rule. His experiences in the health-tech industry encompass various roles, including Director of Clinical Informatics, Head of Product, and Medical Director at organizations such as doc.ai and Sharecare. Chethan has contributed to initiatives ranging from patient portals and EHR transformations to virtual clinical trials and AI-driven digital biomarkers.
Chethan’s personal motivation to become a pediatrician stems from his own experiences as a patient. Within his role at Gardner Packard Clinic, a Federally Qualified Health Center, he contributes to patient care in a community-based academic general pediatrics practice and plays a role in EHR implementation and transition. He has served in a leadership capacity for SHIFT, a national working group focused on addressing privacy concerns related to adolescents in the evolving digital healthcare landscape and promoting equitable interoperability.
Outside of consulting for OpenNotes and leading the Health Tech Hub at Cornell Tech, Chethan co-founded the Climate Health Innovation & Learning Lab (CHILL), which connects healthcare, climate change, and informatics. He serves on the Board of Directors for The Light Collective, a non-profit focused on patients’ digital rights in AI.
