VCU Health (Virginia Commonwealth University) based in Richmond, VA has been a pioneer in the use of Electronic Health Records. Patient care and safety is a team effort at VCU Health, and we consider our patients part of the team. By implementing OpenNotes, our patients can now access more information about their care at our 600-physician multi-specialty group practice and 1125-bed hospital through their patient portal, myVCUhealth.
By opening up more of the medical record to patients, caregivers, and other trusted proxies, our patients can be more in control of their own health data. We are hoping this transparency will improve patients’ understanding of their medical conditions and care plans so they can better partner in their care. We look forward to adding to the information we open up to our patients as well as continuously improving the tools we provide to help improve patient care and their experience at VCUMC.
