Making health care more accessible for all
Advancing health equity with innovative technologies
The OpenNotes Lab Large Language Model Translation Learning Collaborative (LLM TLC) aims to improve healthcare accessibility and fairness by using AI-powered language translation tools (LLMs).
Our mission is to:
- Share and test best practices among health systems
- Implement AI translation technologies for non-English languages
- Address legal challenges of using AI translation tools in U.S. health systems
By doing this, we aim to ensure that language is not a barrier to healthcare access.
Focusing on all types of communication
The LLM TLC focuses on both verbal and written communication, including but not limited to patient messages, discharge summaries, and real-time clinical and administrative communications.
We seek to address key questions in today’s evolving landscape by identifying the best methods to measure translation accuracy, co-developing and sharing best practices for implementation, evaluating mixed-language translations, and assessing cultural differences.
Join us
Our membership includes health systems, health professionals, and leaders who are implementing and testing AI translation tools in clinical settings, as well as patients.
- Foster open dialogue and collaboration with technology companies
- Co-design and iterate on real-world solutions
- Cultivate a community dedicated to language equity
