A recent publication by Sue Woods, MD and colleagues in the Journal of Medical Internet Research, investigated VA patient experiences with full electronic access to health records, including clinical notes. Patients overwhelmingly felt that having more, rather than less, of their health record information provided significant benefits.
As one participating patient described:
I can go in and ask more intelligent questions and we don’t have to spend as much time with them explaining everything to me. And then, with my stress level up at the doctor’s office, I don’t hear half of it and then we may have to do it again and again and so, it helps us to have better communication
