Dave deBronkart, known on the internet as “e-Patient Dave” (empowered, engaged, equipped, enabled), brings to OpenNotes the insights of one of the world’s leading advocates for patient engagement, with a particular focus on access to personal health data. After beating back stage IV kidney cancer in 2007 at Boston’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Dave became a blogger, health policy adviser and international speaker, attending nearly 500 conferences and policy meetings nationally and internationally.
A co-founder and Chair Emeritus of the Society for Participatory Medicine, Dave’s writings have been published in the lay and medical media and peer-reviewed scientific journals. He serves on the British Medical Journal’s patient advisory panel, and his compelling TEDx Talk “Let Patients Help” was for years in the top half of most-watched TED talks of all time.
