Lauren Bruckner has been at the forefront of enhancing patient engagement since 2009 when she became the principal physician champion for URMC’s patient portal and was subsequently named the organization’s first Medical Director of Patient Engagement. She has worked closely with OpenNotes since 2017 when she was the co-PI on a New York State Health Foundation grant to launch OpenNotes as a community-wide initiative in Rochester. More recently, she collaborated with OpenNotes and Johns Hopkins on a John A. Hartford Foundation-funded multisite effort to engage family caregivers through shared access to the electronic health record.
